GLO Patent Map: The Jones Patents, 1814–1833
The key finding on this page: the patent image for Lewellen Jones's accession CV-0109-122 names "Leroy Pope assignee of Lewellen Jones" — the founder of Huntsville took assignment of Jones's claim. That patent, signed by President James Monroe and Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office, is the signature evidence that the Jones family was doing business inside Huntsville's founding elite circle, and it is why the GLO patent sweep was reprioritized to identify which Pope first.
Dataset note: All thirteen patents below were verified October 2, 2026 from BLM General Land Office records, Huntsville Meridian, Madison County, Alabama — the records do not place them in Morgan County. The seven core patents issued November 20, 1818, under the Credit Volume (Harrison Land Act of April 15, 1800), name either Leroy Pope or David Moore as Lewellen Jones's co-patentee.
